Angel of the Swamp

Angels come from everywhere to live in the swamp, even from New Jersey. Elaine Middelstaedt comments that even though she is a Jersey girl, Everglades City still welcomed her, even electing her as a city councilperson for three terms (losing by just four votes the fourth time)! She also served as Chairperson of the Collier County Metropolitan Planning Organization during her last four-year term.  

Elaine is everywhere – you see her at most events and meetings around town – because she has volunteered her time and energy for many, many years to be the secretary or treasurer of almost all our non-profit organizations. Currently, Elaine serves as Secretary of the Everglades Lions Club, Treasurer of the Everglades Society for Historic Preservation, Treasurer of the Friends of the Museum of the Everglades, and was hired by the Everglades Community Church to oversee their finances. 

Elaine, with a law degree and a member of the New Jersey and Florida bars, started her own pension administration business in 1996. She continues to work in addition to her tireless service to our community. Elaine, you are a true Angel of the Swamp!
