Museum of the Everglades is celebrating a legacy individual and a legacy event in April!
Founder Barron Collier gets his due at the Third Thursday lecture on April 16 at 2:00 PM. “The Spirit of ’26: Barron Collier’s American Dream (America250)” goes back to 1926 when Everglades (now known as Everglades City) was in its heyday and Collier founded the town. Museum Manager Thomas Lockyear turns back time 100 years to explore the town that Collier built and how its present-day incarnation reflects the intrinsic American values that form the fabric of our nation.
Then on Saturday, April 25, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, it’s a commemoration of the 98th anniversary of the completion of Tamiami Trail and a celebration of the “birthday” of the Museum of the Everglades, which opened in 1998. The afternoon features live music, complimentary hot dogs, and laundry cart races. Come early for a complimentary walking tour, sign up and take part in the races, check out the classic cars, enjoy music, and some birthday cake. It’s a feel-good, family-friendly annual event.
