Spectacular Turkey Shoot

There was lots of fun to be had at the annual Everglades Lions Club Turkey Shoot on March 21 and 22! The event features paper targets (no birds are hurt) and featured a perfect location and weather. Since the rifles use birdshot at the targets, winners are crowned by random, pure luck! The judges used calipers to see which shooter got closest to the target center. And of course, safety was the name of the day with strictly enforced guidelines.

Much thanks to Robby Mayberry for hosting the Turkey Shoot at his Cypress Tower Road Camp in Ochopee for the second year.

Congratulations to these grand prize winners:

Lyle Demere of Chokoloskee won the $500 gift certificate to Bass Pro Shops.

Toddler Rosalie Johnson, visiting her grandparents on Chokoloskee, won the $250 gift certificate.

Mark Chesser of Everglades City won the $150 gift certificate.
